Answering frequently asked questions about the establishment of the Syrian community organization in the Netherlands
1️⃣ Are there divisions that result in multiple communities ?
◀️ The ideal situation, which we hope for, is one community for all the children of one motherland.
◀️ However, reality (unfortunately) is influenced by political factors that produce multiple communities according to political divisions, as is the case with the Palestinian community!
◀️ Sometimes, partial affiliations such as ethnicities are dominant, resulting in, for example, a Kurdish community, an Assyrian community, etc.
◀️ We are establishing a Syrian community that does not exclude any Syrian who believes in a single, unified Syria. A community whose roots are in our motherland, whose branches blossom in the diaspora, and whose fruits are harvested by Syrians in Syria and in the Netherlands.

2️⃣ The Community Organization is licensed under number
KVK-nummer: ( 96718943 )
Date: March 18, 2025
◀️ All information pertaining to the Community Organization is clearly stated in its bylaws and the official documents filed with the Dutch authorities, as they are the licensing body. These documents are available for anyone who wishes to review them on the organization's official website.
◀️ The organization's funding is subject to Dutch law, just like any other organization in a country governed by laws.
◀️ Regarding financial matters, we have nothing to hide or fear to disclose. While questions about this may be legitimate, a Facebook commenter cannot act as the organization's financial auditor! We are committed to Dutch law and our bylaws.
◀️ We are committed to financial transparency, and in fact, we are very transparent about it.
◀️ To the point that we've committed ourselves to something no one else would...
◀️ The law requires us to submit our financial documents to the relevant government agencies according to specific deadlines and procedures.
◀️ The bylaws require the board of directors to submit its documents to the general assembly at its meeting. We will do as described above and more.
◀️ We've decided to publish our financial statements (internal and external) on our official website every three months.
◀️ From the date of our license until recently, we were unable to obtain approval for our bank account due to the sanctions imposed on Syria because of the inclusion of Syria's name in our organization's name…
And to this day, our bank balance is zero.
◀️ The expenses and requirements for our previous activities were covered by the contributions of those on our team who were able to contribute.
◀️ We still consider the organization to be in the establishment phase until the general assembly convenes. Therefore, our activities and funding sources are limited, and even the simple membership and annual subscription fees, as specified in the bylaws, have not yet been collected.
◀️ We currently have a project to provide iftar meals for 1,500 displaced Syrians in camps inside Syria. All the procedures for this project are complete, but there are difficulties in securing the necessary resources for its implementation.

3️⃣ Why don't we hear about the community's role in the plight of Syrians in refugee camps in the Netherlands?
◀️ It's unfair to accuse the community organization of negligence in this matter. Despite being a newly established organization, it is doing everything it can in this regard. It consistently conveys the suffering of Syrians whose asylum procedures are delayed and obstructed, considering them the most vulnerable group in need of support and assistance.
◀️ This doesn't mean that the community organization is capable of bringing about significant change in the Dutch government's asylum policy; This was influenced by the right-wing government and the changes that occurred in Syria. Therefore, this matter cannot be decided or altered by the community organization or any other organization, even though we wish otherwise.
◀️ The issue is subject to European and Dutch laws, and the government's policy in the last year has been to obstruct procedures.
◀️ This is a means of pressuring those who have not received residency permits to accept voluntary return, while simultaneously sending a message to those who have not yet arrived in the Netherlands, discouraging them from choosing the Netherlands.
◀️ The community organization is still being established, so it is unrealistic to expect it to bring about changes in government policies to the extent desired by all Syrians residing in the Netherlands. We all have relatives or acquaintances suffering in the camps.
◀️ For the community to have weight and an influential voice, all Syrians residing in the Netherlands should unite as quickly as possible to support the organization. It is not right to rely on a limited number of founders, then blame and accuse them of negligence, while they are attacked by individuals who are only skilled at destruction for personal gain.
◀️ We are laying the foundation for a community that will need years to become effective and strong, transforming into a lobby that can pressure the host country's government to achieve the interests of its members and have influence and impact on the homeland.
◀️ Your joining the community organization will contribute to accelerating the process of building this Syrian home that welcomes everyone.
◀️ Through this link, you will find important information about your organization and learn about the interim team. You will also find the membership link so that we can be partners in responsibility, sharing rights and duties.

The meeting featured extensive dialogue with members of the Syrian community in Breda and several other cities in the province. Hosted and organized by a number of Syrian activists in the region, the meeting was attended by several members of the Community's Board of Directors and Advisory Council. The meeting addressed the role of the Community as an independent and licensed civil society organization, and its vision for enhancing the participation and positive presence of Syrians in Dutch society.

The attendees emphasized the importance of launching and organizing impactful activities that strengthen the organization's role, whether through provincial offices, the board of directors, or through collaboration with partner organizations whose objectives align with those of the community.
At the conclusion of the meeting, applications for volunteer work were opened in preparation for the establishment of a Syrian community office in the province. Membership remains open to anyone wishing to participate in this national and community-based endeavor.
Cities with a significant Syrian population in the province include:
Breda, Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Tilburg, Helmond, and Roosendaal.

Statement Issued By The Syrian Community In The Netherlands, Regarding The Unfortunate Incident At The Memorial Site
The Syrian community in the Netherlands has followed with deep sorrow and condemnation the circulating images that showed the desecration of the memorial dedicated to Emma and Jeffrey. Our pain is twofold: first, the loss of the two children in a horrific accident, and second, the recent actions of some young people.
We condemn this act in the strongest terms and emphasize that it is an individual act that does not represent the values of the Syrian community, nor the morals of its members who live respectfully and consciously in the Netherlands, and who sincerely strive to contribute positively to this generous society.
We extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims' family and express our sincere solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy, believing that the pain of loss transcends languages, borders, and affiliations. We carry within our collective memory much pain and loss, and we fully understand what it means to lose a child. Therefore, our solidarity stems from the authenticity of our shared experience and the depth of our common human feeling.
In this context, the community affirms the following:
– A clear and firm condemnation of this act, which we consider a violation of the sanctity of human grief and an unacceptable transgression against the dignity of the victims and the feelings of their families.
– Full cooperation with the Dutch authorities to hold those involved accountable, in accordance with the law, and in a manner that preserves the dignity of the community and upholds justice.
– Intensifying efforts on youth and cultural awareness programs within the community to instill the values of respect and civic responsibility.
– Emphasizing the importance of partnership between the community and Dutch institutions to build trust and promote mutual understanding.
– Stressing the necessity of upholding the principles of coexistence and respecting the values of Dutch society, as the unifying framework for diversity, understanding, and respect.
– Calling for the incident not to be exploited for political or inflammatory purposes, while emphasizing that responsibility is individual.
May God have mercy on the victims, grant their families patience, and protect all the children of the world from pain and injustice.

A Joint Collaboration Between The "Syrian Community In The Netherlands" And the "Syrian Intellectuals Association For Development And Reconstruction" To Support Development Efforts In Syria
In a new step towards strengthening Syrian-Syrian cooperation between those inside and outside Syria, the Syrian community in the Netherlands and the Syrian Intellectuals Association for Development and Reconstruction in Syria signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at coordinating efforts between the two parties in the areas of reconstruction, community development, culture, and education.
According to the MoU, the two parties seek to launch joint initiatives and projects that contribute to supporting sustainable development efforts within Syria, with a focus on promoting the values of citizenship and cultural belonging, and organizing volunteer, community, cultural, and educational events.
The two parties emphasize in the MoU the importance of a complementary partnership. The agreement does not authorize either party to interfere in the affairs of the other, manage its resources, or contract on its behalf. Rather, it is a flexible cooperative framework that can be renewed every six months unless one party notifies the other in writing of its desire to terminate it.
The MoU also stipulates the establishment of formal coordination between the two parties through documented correspondence, with a full commitment not to request any financial resources except in the case of specific agreements for joint projects.
The agreement was signed in both the Netherlands and Syria, with Mr. Abdul-Moneim Al-Shaman representing the Syrian community in the Netherlands, and Mr. Nihad Sweid representing the Syrian Intellectuals Association for Development and Reconstruction in Syria.
This step is a promising move towards strengthening ties between members of the Syrian diaspora and development institutions within Syria, within a framework of cooperation that prioritizes the interests of the homeland and society.

Official Statement: Categorically Rejecting The Israeli Aggression Against Damascus And Warning Of Its Serious Consequences For Syria.
The Syrian community in the Netherlands condemns in the strongest terms the treacherous Israeli aggression targeting the Syrian capital, Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited capital in history and one of the greatest human civilizations, embodying the Syrian national identity.
This heinous attack resulted in the martyrdom and injury of innocent civilians and caused widespread destruction, in flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and a blatant transgression against its land and people, as part of a systematic series of attacks that the occupying entity has consistently perpetrated with complete impunity.
We affirm that this aggression constitutes a clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of any state. It also contravenes the rules of international humanitarian law and flagrantly violates the principles of sovereignty and non-intervention enshrined in international conventions and treaties.
The continued international silence regarding these violations threatens regional and international security and stability.
While we strongly condemn this dangerous escalation, we affirm that such crimes will not diminish the resolve of the Syrian people, nor will they deter them from upholding their unity, rights, and independent national decision-making. We also warn against the danger of exploiting this aggression to inflame internal tensions or advance fragmentation projects under false pretenses.
Any attempt to fracture national unity is a direct attack on the struggle and sacrifices of the Syrian people, and an unacceptable deviation from the national consensus rejecting all forms of guardianship and occupation, especially from an entity that understands only the logic of force and aggression.
We, the Syrian community in the Netherlands, are following with grave concern the events that have occurred and are occurring in the Suwaida Governorate. We express our complete rejection of all forms of violence and violations against civilians, regardless of their source or perpetrator. We reaffirm our commitment to the humanitarian and national principle that calls for holding accountable all those who have committed crimes against civilians, from all sides without exception, within the framework of justice, transparency, and the rule of law. We emphasize that Syria's salvation lies in its unity, both in terms of land and people, and in rejecting all attempts at division, incitement, or exclusion.
The Syrian community in the Netherlands reiterates its unwavering stance against all forms of aggression and foreign interference. It affirms its complete solidarity with the Syrian people, both inside and outside the country, and its commitment to the unity of Syria—its land, people, and leadership—and its rejection of turning the homeland into an arena for settling scores or imposing dictates.
For there is no dignity in abandoning unity at a time when Syria needs all its sons and daughters.
May God protect the soil of this homeland and its people.
Glory and mercy to the martyrs of this nation.

A Massive Protest Was Held In Front Of The Israeli Embassy In The Hague, Condemning Israeli Aggression.
With a large turnout from the Syrian community in the Netherlands, Syrian activists residing in the Netherlands organized a massive protest in front of the Israeli embassy in The Hague, condemning the recent Israeli aggression that targeted vital sites in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the southern cities of As-Suwayda and Daraa.
A large number of members of the Syrian community in the Netherlands participated in the protest, along with activists and supporters from the Arab and Dutch communities. The participants expressed their strong condemnation of what they described as "the brutal Israeli attacks that violate Syrian sovereignty and threaten the country's security and stability."
It is worth noting that the recent Israeli airstrikes targeted the Syrian General Staff building in central Damascus, sites near the Presidential Palace, and military and security locations in the cities of Daraa and As-Suwayda. The airstrikes also targeted convoys belonging to the Syrian police and public security forces that were heading to quell the civil conflict between members of the Druze community and Bedouin in As-Suwayda Governorate.
The demonstrators raised Syrian flags and banners bearing slogans condemning the "ongoing Israeli aggression against Syrian territory," affirming their support for the Syrian army in the face of external threats and rejecting attempts to undermine Syria's internal stability under flimsy pretexts.
In speeches delivered during the demonstration, the organizers emphasized that this aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international law and reflects an Israeli policy aimed at igniting chaos in Syria and draining the Syrian state at a moment of gradual recovery after years of war.
The participants also addressed messages to the international community and European public opinion, calling for urgent diplomatic action to put an end to the Israeli escalation and hold accountable those responsible for targeting civilians and state institutions.
This demonstration is part of a series of Syrian popular movements in Europe aimed at conveying the voice of rejection of the aggression and affirming the Syrian diaspora's commitment to their homeland and its independent decision-making.

In A Remarkable Humanitarian Collaboration Between Local And International Partners: Insulin And Testing Strips Distributed To 50 children With Diabetes In The Syrian City Of Hama.
Within the framework of humanitarian cooperation between the Syrian community in the Netherlands and the Syrian Intellectuals Association for Development and Reconstruction in Syria, the first phase of a unique medical initiative aimed at supporting children with diabetes inside Syria was successfully implemented.
In Hama Governorate, insulin, along with injection tips and blood glucose test strips, was distributed to fifty children suffering from diabetes. This humanitarian initiative seeks to provide healthcare for sick children and alleviate their suffering amidst the difficult circumstances in Syria.
Those in charge of the initiative confirmed that this effort resulted from prior coordination and a joint agreement between the Syrian community in the Netherlands and the association operating inside Syria, within the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed earlier between the two parties. This memorandum aims to implement humanitarian, developmental, and cultural projects inside Syria.
Mr. Abdul-Moneim Al-Shaman, representative of the Syrian community in the Netherlands, stated that this step represents a genuine beginning for a sustainable partnership between expatriates and civil society organizations inside Syria. It embodies the community's commitment to standing by their families in their homeland, especially the most vulnerable groups.
For his part, Mr. Nihad Sweid, President of the Syrian Intellectuals Association for Development and Reconstruction, expressed his deep appreciation for this support, which effectively contributes to addressing some of the chronic shortages in medicines and medical supplies, and provides sick children and their families with a sense of security and care amidst a difficult health situation.
This phase is expected to be followed by others targeting additional areas and different groups, within a comprehensive action plan that seeks to enhance health and development security through collaborative projects that bring together expertise and resources from both inside and outside the country.
The two associations affirm that this cooperation is only the beginning of a long journey of joint work, through which Syrians hope to build genuine and sustainable bridges of support that strengthen the resilience of society and meet its health, educational, and economic needs.
